I ride a 1983 BMW R100RT that I call 'Gudrun the Red Zeppelin'. She's a sweet old bike. She's my first BMW. My previous bikes included:
196? Bridgestone 200,
1969 Triumph Bonneville,
1974 Honda CB450,
1977 Yamaha XS650,
1978 Honda Hawk.
News flash! Dec 1, 2001 I picked up an '87 BMW R80 with 24,000 miles. Rode it home from Columbus OH. So now I have a pair of Boxers...
This picture kind of sums it up for me. It was taken en route to the 2001 IBMWR Blitz to Branson, somewhere in North central Arkansas. A beautiful day, good friends, twisty roads. You really can't ask for much more in a 2-wheeled adventure.
This is Gudrun, in her configuration as of December 2001. If you look closely in the RH view, you can see the front subframe that I've mounted in preparation for adding a sidecar.
March 2002-here is Gudrun with the Velorex 562 mounted. There's still a lot of cleanup to do, and wiring, but we're getting there.

Here is the 1987 R80. I'm planning to replace the Rifle Sport fairing with a more attractive R90S-style fairing. To my eye the Rifle is just plain fugly...
Here's a more recent shot of the R80. I've removed the Rifle fairing and sold it on eBay. I have a small clear fairing on order, as well as a MAC exhaust that should be lots quieter than the Luftmeister that's in this picture. I decided that the R90S type fairing was too 'common' and an going with a naked look. The bike is remarkably comfortable with the short bars, and the bar ends work just great for rearward visibility.
Here are some pictures of the fairing vent lights from the 1983 R100RT. These are a fairly rare period accessory commonly called 'police lights'.
